Book Review- Longbourn Inheritance by Laraba Kendig
The Bennet family reels from a tragic loss. Six months prior, Matthew Bennet, Lydia’s twin brother and the heir apparent of Longbourn, passed away. In his absence, Mr. Bennet turns to drink in an attempt to drown his grief. Elizabeth takes over running the estate to try to preserve what remains of her family's legacy.
Elizabeth is repulsed by Mr. Darcy’s haughty behavior and his cruel remarks towards her sister at the assembly. But when he sprains his ankle tripping over a puppy, and shows more concern for the dog than himself, she begins to see a softer side of him.
Mr. Darcy initially thinks Elizabeth is too far beneath him, but Bingley takes him to task. As friendships blossom into more for both him and Bingley with their respective Bennet sisters, a twist of fate occurs. Mr. Collins suddenly dies, leaving the entail broken. Now that Mr. Bennet is free to leave his estate whomever he wishes, who will he name as recipient of the Longbourn Inheritance?
This was a charming story with very little angst or peril. Mr. Bingley had more backbone than usual, which helped to set Darcy straight earlier. Lady Catherine tries to interfere but gets a good setting-down. Mr. Wickham attempts to cause some trouble, but does not run away with Lydia. Bingley’s little spaniel Maxwell plays a special part in bringing Lizzy and Darcy together. Mr. Bennet wins in his struggle with alcohol and becomes an excellent master and father, and all the characters receive the ending they deserve. If you’re looking for a lighthearted romance between Elizabeth and Darcy, you’ll definitely enjoy Laraba Kendig’s Longbourn Inheritance.
