I always enjoy Shannon Winslow's narrative style, and this book was no exception. Mr Knightley, In His Own Words tells the story of Emma from Mr Knightley's perspective. Beginning in his youth, and leading up all the way to his marriage with Emma, we finally get to see what Mr Knightley's life is like growing up.
I liked the backstory that Ms Winslow created for Mr Knightley, including the additions of an elder brother and an evil uncle, as well as his brief romantic entanglement with a young lady during his one London season. These additions to the canon tale help to round out Mr Knightley's character and story, and make us more fully appreciate the boy-next-door's gradual friends-to-lovers romance with Emma.
If you enjoy Austen retellings that add to the canon rather than vary it, then you will love this story.
